The Power Of Affirmations
Affirmations are a powerful way to create changes and to get the full benefit of affirmations you have to make sure your statements are positive, and focused on exactly what you want. They can’t be vague.
You can use positive affirmations to manifest your needs and to bring positive change into your life. Positive affirmations are simply statements recited over and over again and used to program your subconscious mind and to effect change. Let’s look at this in more detail.
Any positive self-talk or inner dialogue is a form of affirmations.
We are constantly affirming at a subconscious level with our thoughts and words. This flow of affirmations actually creates our life experience – it becomes ‘your story.’ Negative statements create a negative life. Positive statements create a positive life. It’s really that simple.
We learn our beliefs through patterns that we developed starting back in our childhood. Many beliefs work well but some of these beliefs could be working against you. These affirmations can stop us from getting what we want. Every affirmation that we say or think is actually a reflection of our beliefs – our ‘inner truth.’ We need to recognize that some of these inner truths are not valid. They may have been developed when we were a child and now are not relevant or appropriate.
The behavior patterns that are stored in our subconscious allow us to automatically respond to events that occur in your life. This is crucial to our survival as we must be able to quickly respond to events in our life. That’s what these learned responses allow us to do.
To make changes you can use positive affirmations, which are simply short positive statements that target your subconscious belief system and that will challenge your negative beliefs so that you replace them with a positive belief. Think of it as your own personal brain washing.
Do Positive Affirmations Actually Work?
Absolutely! Yes! You’ll have a hard time finding a self-help program that doesn’t at some point use affirmations especially daily affirmations. These daily affirmations are part of the program because they work. The stronger minded and determined you are to effectively make the change the more ready you are to accept the change and let go of your past, and therefore the more likely the change will occur.
How and Why Positive Affirmations Work
When you choose to say these positive affirmations, they get imprinted on your subconscious mind. Your conscious mind will either avoid or accept the new statement as a belief. The conscious mind wants to stick to what it knows and will often put up resistance to new positive statements that contradict what it is used to thinking and believing. You’ll know when this is happening because you’ll have strong negative feelings as you are stating your positive affirmations. You have to keep working with the new positive affirmations. Once you start to feel joy and have a sense of well being, you know your mind is accepting and the affirmation is working.
When you constantly repeat the affirmation, you are chipping away at the resistance from your conscious mind. Your affirmations reprogram your thinking process and they change the way you think or feel. Of course, for you to enjoy success from using daily affirmations you have to really be determined to see the change. If you put in a halfhearted effort you’ll get halfhearted results.
How Positive Affirmations Can Help You
No matter what it is you are dealing with in your life, using daily affirmations can help you to feel better about your life and yourself. When used properly they can be a tool to reprogram your mind and remove any negative beliefs that might interfere with what you want in life and they tend to do this over and over.

- Good health
- Weight loss
- Self esteem
All of these are common affirmation topics. Of course, your positive affirmations can be anything you want.
How to Create Positive Affirmations That Work
Let’s look at how you can create your own positive affirmations or daily affirmations.
- Start by thinking about what in your life you would want to improve and think about how you would like your life to look. Write down what’s most import to you.
- Now have a look at your list and beside each of the items you need to write down two or three positive statements written in the present tense and they must focus on what you want. For example, let’s say that you want to maintain good health. Your affirmation would be something like “I live a healthy lifestyle and I am healthy.”
If you create personal affirmations these are right for you! In the beginning, you will be using a releasing affirmation. A good example of a releasing affirmation is “Right now I am willing and able to release my past.”
How to Supercharge Your Daily Affirmations
There are techniques that you can use to supercharge your affirmations so that they are more effective. Let’s look at a few ways of doing that.
#1 Mirror Work
One of the most powerful daily affirmations occurs when you are standing in front of the mirror and state your affirmations.
#2 Put it in Writing
One way to keep your affirmations fresh and in your mind is to write them down. Put it on a postit, leave it on a card around the house, put it in print where you will find it, and it will help you with your affirmation. Another way that helps is to write down your affirmation 20 times. That’s kind of like the old ‘blackboard days’ of writing the ‘I will not’ message on the chalkboard.
#3 Sing it Out Loud
Sing your affirmation to your favorite tune or make it up as you go. This is a great way to make your affirmation a reality.
